The Palenque Sarcophagus Lid

I have recently read that the figure on the Sarcophagus lid at Palengue may be an image of a goddess rather than Pascal, the King inside the the Sarcophagus. It is said tobe the Water Goddess Chalchiuhtlicue with lags spread to give birth.
